You all know I am all about simplifying meals and I just don't have time for kneading and rolling, but I love love love Southern-Style Sweet Buttermilk Biscuits.

Lately, I have really been craving the flavors and dishes I remember from my childhood. I guess that is a good indication that I am missing home. Well, at least my family and especially my mom.

I grew up in small town America, in southwest Florida in a little town untouched by reality. Sure, I had the typical family and life struggles, but it was kind of like growing up in Mayberry. I joked about it through my teens and twenties. Nonetheless, looking back I wouldn't change a thing.

Florida is a melting pot for the northeastern and the southern United States. There are so many culinary influences, but the ones that truly take me home are the recipes of the south that I remember from my childhood. My mother prepared a lot of Italian food as my dad is Italian and that is what he loved most.

But, when we spent time eating with our friends, we would get to enjoy their favorite dishes and that usually was the best the south had to offer. So, when I think of home, the flavors of the south beckon to me. Strawberry Shortcake was a favorite growing up!

I tried to recreate that magic with a store bought sponge cake for a long time; that was until I discovered the beauty of the Sweet Buttermilk Drop Biscuit. It is so simple that it brings this Southern favorite to your table in about 30 minutes!

I have created an amazing drop biscuit recipe to take the complicated out of this southern classic. It all starts with a super easy sweet buttermilk drop biscuit. There is no kneading or rolling here. It is a genius creation! You are going to love it.

    Cheesy Bacon Green Bean Casserole

Cheesy Bacon Green Bean Casserole ain't your grandma's recipe! This modern take on the classic recipe features green beans in a rich and creamy bacon mushroom cheese sauce that will change Thanksgiving forever! Cooking from scratch has never been so easy.

We are so excited to be partnering with our friends at Jones Dairy Farm to bring you a scrumptious slow cooker meal perfect served for breakfast, Brinner or even as a perfect side  holidays with family and friends, starring one of my favorite ingredients: Bacon!!!

This modern take on the classic recipe features green beans in a rich and creamy bacon mu Cheesy Bacon Green Bean Casserole

You know growing up the 'traditional' green bean casserole was not a tradition in my house. My mom made a lot of scrumptious side dishes on the holidays but not the oh so popular green bean casserole. When I moved out to Arizona, Chad and I would spend the holidays with his family. Every holiday there was a green bean casserole.

Let's just say that his family loved it and there was never a bite left.

Years later the idea of a green bean casserole came back into my mind, but I started thinking about how I could completely revamped the famous semi-homemade version into modern rendition of the green bean casserole that will change your life and the way you do holiday dinners!

It all starts with that heavenly bacon. After it is fried and set aside, the entire dish is built on the bacon. Starting with the mshrooms and onion sauted in the bacon drippings. Then the cheese sauce is built on top of that. It just gets better and better. We used thawed frozen green beans for convenience, but you can use fresh if they are available. Just blanch them first.

To finish off this masterpiece, we have opted for crisp bacon for the addictive crunch that you are familiar with, but with so much flavor! This recipe completely redefines green bean casserole. It is sure to be on our Thanksgiving table year after year.

Peach cobbler is one of my favorite desserts, and it totally reminds me of summer because most of the time when I make it, its when we are camping!

I cook it up in the dutch oven over some coals, and it is the perfect hot dessert to eat before climbing into bed.

I usually make it with canned peaches, and a cake mix to make it super easy - since we are taking it camping after all.

But this version with fresh peaches, and a homemade cake type topping is amazing and its the perfect way to eat cobbler all year, but especially all summer long!

Topping the slow cooker cobbler with ice cream is a must! Because you can't have cobbler without vanilla ice cream. You can also add a maraschino cherry if you want ;)

Helpful Tips to make Crock Pot Peach Cobbler:

    • You can use frozen, or canned peaches instead of fresh peaches. Don't use all the liquid in the canned peaches because the extra liquid will make the cobbler topping a little softer with less crunch on top. (I do recommend fresh peaches if they are in season though, they're flavor is just perfection)

      Sausage Gravy and Biscuit Skillet

Classic Sausage Gravy and Biscuits can be on your table in just 30 minutes. This is a one skillet recipe that is sure to make it into your permanent recipe file. Flavorful saw mill gravy made with sausage and scrumptious biscuits that goes from prep to plate in 30 minutes.

I have eaten my share of sausage gravy and biscuits growing up, as a matter of fact I worked at a southern restaurant in my teens. Truth is, I had a lot of jobs in my younger years.

I think I was finding my place. Well this restaurant wasn't it long term, but their food was amazing and I ate biscuits and gravy every day at work.  You could easily say sausage gravy and biscuits are one of my favorites.

      How to Make Sausage Gravy

Even though it is a favorite, I have shyed away from making it because I didn't want to go through all the work of making biscuits and washing all those pans.

Ugh.  That was until I created this fabulous one skillet recipe.

The sage breakfast sausage is cooked in an oven safe skillet.  Scrumptious saw mill gravy is built right in that same skillet and then cheesy biscuits are dropped on top of your sausage gravy.

Just pop the skillet in the oven to bake the biscuits and it is ready to serve.

I even clean up the kitchen and set the table while the biscuits are cooking.  Easy peasy.

The perfect family breakfast (or lunch or dinner).  Truthfully its so good, I eat it any time of the day!

Just 30 minutes from prep to plate and enough time to phone a friend or clean your kitchen.

      • If the gravy thickens too much, add a splash of milk to loosen it back up.
      • The sausage gravy will thicken as the biscuits cook in the oven so be sure it is a little looser when you put it in the oven.

Living in Southwestern Florida for so many years I developed an appreciation for many Southern things (not really the south, but a lot of Southern exposure). One of which is Southern desserts such as pies, crisps, and cobblers.

None have stuck with me quite as much as this recipe that my friend Mary shared with me, long after I moved to Arizona.

The peach mixture is luscious and creamy.  The cobbler is absolutely divine.  It is crisp on the outside and cakey on the inside.  Served along side a scoop of vanilla ice cream or frozen banana ice cream and you'll be in heaven.

This cobbler transports me to a small Southern town, where your neighbor bakes you a fresh cobbler with peaches they picked off their tree.

You sit on your porch drinking iced tea watching the sunset.  Your kids play out front with the neighborhood kids and you haven't a worry in the world.

You leave your front door open during the day and sleep with the windows open at night.

You hear musical phrases such as "all ya'll", "fit to be tied" and "down yonder" where they are "fixin' to" do something and they don't think or consider...  They "reckon".

Such fond memories with every bite of this fabulous cobbler.  I know you will enjoy it as much as I do!  Chad and Munchkin are HUGE fans too.

This cobbler is calling to me in my dreams, so I reckon' I'll be fixin' to make another!

Tips for making southern peach cobbler

      • Be sure to adjust your oven temperature if you are using glass pans or dark pans. They cook faster, so reduce your temperature by 25°.
      • You can cut in flour with a pastry blender, a fork or 2 butter knives.

Kitchen equipment for making this dessert recipe:

      • 9x13 Glass Baking DishI have my favorites and this set is one of them. The 9x13 is perfect for casseroles and the smaller size is awesome for making 1/2 a casserole recipe.

      Enjoy!

      Ingredients

      • 8 fresh peaches - peeled, pitted and sliced into thin wedges
      • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
      • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
      • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
      • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
      • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
      • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
      For Cobbler Topping
      • 2 cups all-purpose flour
      • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
      • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
      • 2 teaspoons baking powder
      • 1 teaspoon salt
      • 12 tablespoons unsalted butter, chilled and cut into small pieces
      • 1/2 cup boiling water
      FOR SPRINKLING
      • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar

      Instructions

      1. Preheat oven to 400°F (if you are using a dark or glass pan - 425°F if you are using a light color pan).
      2. In a large bowl, combine peaches, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 1/4 cup light brown sugar, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and cornstarch. Toss to coat evenly, and pour into a 2 quart baking dish. Bake in preheated oven for 10 minutes.
      3. Meanwhile, prepare cobbler topping: in a large bowl, combine flour, sugars, baking powder, and salt.
      4. Blend in butter with your fingertips, or a pastry blender, until mixture resembles coarse meal. Stir in water until just combined.
      5. Remove peaches from oven, and drop spoonfuls of topping over them.
      6. Sprinkle entire cobbler with the sugar. Set your baking dish on a baking sheet (this cobbler can drip into the oven otherwise).  Bake until topping is golden, about 30 minutes.
      7. Top with ice cream if desired. Serve and enjoy!!
