Slow Cooker Beef Bourguignon is one of those incredibly easy to make meals that leave everyone rave about it. The beef is cooked to tender perfection, while so juicy and full of flavor from being slowly simmered in wine for eight hours.  ,

The veggies will melt in your mouth, they get tender and buttery and not mushy. I love to serve this meal on holidays and when I expect company, the recipe is very easy and effortless to make, while the results are fantastic.

Helpful Tips to make Slow Cooker Beef Bourguignon:

  • Make sure you buy high-quality beef, that will make a huge difference.
  • Make sure you also brown the beef, it will lock the beef flavors and make this dish even better.
  • You can add less or more garlic, depending on your own preference. I absolutely love adding the crushed garlic, it makes the broth so much better.
  • Adding the dried herbs will season the broth and make it very tasty, you can also use fresh herbs if you have some on hands.
  • You can use either chicken broth or beef broth, both work amazing in this recipe.
  • If you prefer to make this recipe without the alcohol, you can use beef or chicken broth instead.

Slow Cooker Beef Bourguignon

Slow Cooker Beef Bourguignon recipe is full of delicious and tender veggies, with juicy, melt in your mouth beef cooked in wine.

ingredients:


  • 2-3 pounds boneless beef chuck, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 2 cups red cooking wine
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon dried rosemary
  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 8 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 3 medium carrots, sliced
  • 1 pound baby potatoes
  • 12 ounces fresh baby bella mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 onion, quartered
  • Fresh thyme, optional
  • Fresh chopped parsley

instructions


  1. If you are using a slow cooker with an aluminum insert, select the saute function and pre-heat it. Once hot, add the olive oil.
  2. If your slow cooker does not have an aluminum insert, preheat a large skillet or cast iron pan over medium-high heat and add the olive oil.
  3. Season the beef with salt and pepper and add it brown it for 2-3 minutes on each side, until the beef is nicely browned.
  4. Add the flour and cook it for 1 minute.
  5. Add the chicken broth and mix until combined. At this point, if you are using a skillet, transfer the beef to the slow cooker.
  6. Add the tomato sauce, wine, Worcestershire sauce, dried rosemary, dried thyme, salt, and pepper.
  7. Add the garlic cloves, carrots, potatoes and sliced mushrooms.
  8. Stir well to combine. Add the quartered onion and fresh thyme.
  9. Cook on low for 8-10 hours or high for 6-8 or until the beef is tender.
  10. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve.

How to make the Italian Beef Recipe

Slow cook a boneless beef chuck roast in your crockpot with bouillon and seasonings until it is fork-tender.

Then, shred the meat and serve on toasted hoagie rolls with provolone cheese for a simple, but delicious dinner.

Ingredient notes for Italian Beef Sandwiches

What cut of beef is best for Italian beef?

I use chuck roast in this recipe because it comes out perfectly tender when cooked in the slow cooker. But, you could also substitute a rump roast or another type of boneless beef roast if you prefer.

What type of bread is best for Italian beef sandwiches?

I love hearty sandwiches on hoagie rolls. But, you can use any thin sandwich-type roll if you don't have hoagie rolls.
  • Brioche sandwich roll
  • Ciabatta oblong bun
  • French torpedo roll
  • Italian sandwich roll

Serving the sandwiches on slices of sandwich bread is not recommended. The bread will not be sturdy enough to hold all of the shredded beef and peppers.


About the broth

You can substitute 3 cups of boiling beef stock for the water and bouillon, but the bouillon gives it a really great flavor!

I would still add a few teaspoons of the bouillon or beef base when making this Italian beef recipe.

What types of cheese can I use?

We love the taste of provolone cheese on our sandwiches. But, you can use another type of meltable cheese if you prefer. Good substitutions are mozzarella or cheddar cheese.

To extend the storage time, you can easily freeze your leftovers. Just place the meat in a freezer bag or wrap it tightly with aluminum foil and store it for up to two to three months for the best quality.

To reheat your leftovers after storing them, you will need to allow them to thaw in the refrigerator overnight.

Then, place the leftover beef and the broth in a pan covered with aluminum foil. Bake until it is warmed through and serve it on toasted rolls.


Serving suggestions

We top our Italian Beef Sandwich with roasted red peppers and mild banana peppers.

But, if you want a slightly different taste, you can top it with your favorite giardiniera.

Italian Beef Recipe (Crock Pot)

Make this Italian beef recipe for tender roast beef in a crock pot, then make sandwiches with sweet peppers and melted cheese. SO delicious!

Ingredients

  • 3 cups of boiling water
  • 5 cubes of beef bouillon
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2 teaspoons ground black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried parsley
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper (to taste)
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground thyme
  • 1 (3 pound) boneless beef chuck roast, trimmed of most fat
Sandwich Fixin’s
  • 8 hoagie rolls
  • 16 slices provolone cheese
  • 1 (16 ounce) jar roasted red peppers, sliced
  • 1 (16 ounce) jar mild sliced pepper rings

Instructions

  1. Turn 6 quart slow cooker to high heat. Add boiling water, beef bouillon and Worcestershire.
  2. Combine remaining seasonings in a small bowl. Sprinkle over beef broth and whisk to combine. Add roast and flip to coat both sides. Cover and cook on high for 4 hours or low 8-10 hours. Shred beef by using two forks to pull it apart. Stir to coat all beef in the juices. Cook 1 additional hour covered. (Do not drain)
  3. When ready to serve: Slice rolls in half, place on a baking sheet and broil in oven for 2-4 minutes until bread is lightly golden brown.
  4. Scoop beef on toasted roll and top with 2 slices of provolone cheese. Place back on baking sheet and broil until cheese is melted. Top with red pepper slices and mild pepper rings.
  5. Serve and enjoy.

Move over PF Changs! Who here loves Chinese take-out style meals?  *raises hand frantically*  I love all the bold flavors, great sauces, and how quickly things cook!  One thing I don’t like though, is how hectic it can be to cook take-out style meals at home.  The nature of a stir fry is that things cook really quickly, which means you have to have every component in the recipe ready to go… and things can STILL get stressful right?

Hey guys, it’s Amanda from The Chunky Chef.  I love being a contributor here on TSRI, and will be here sharing some of my favorite recipes each month!  This meal has been in my family’s rotation for a while now, and I just knew I had to share it with all of you!

Helpful Tips to Make Slow Cooker Mongolian Beef:

  • Slice your flank steak against the grain.  As you’re looking at the beef, you’ll see lines, like the grain on a piece of wood.  You want to slice it across those lines, not alongside them.  Doing this ensures an incredibly tender piece of beef.
  • The carrots are optional, but add a great texture!
  • Add the Sriracha to your tastes.  I like this recipe to have a little heat to balance out the sweetness.
  • To make this a complete meal, add some steamed broccoli!

Slow Cooker Mongolian Beef

Ingredients

  • 1-1/2 pounds thinly sliced flank steak (1/4 inch thick)
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (or other light flavored oil)
  • 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons fresh ginger, minced
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 3/4 cup reduced sodium soy sauce
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 - 2 teaspoons Sriracha sauce (can substitute with red pepper flakes or cayenne instead - in whatever amount you prefer)
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • 4-6 green onions, thinly sliced
  • sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Add sliced flank steak and cornstarch to a large resealable plastic bag.  Close and shake to coat well.
  2. To the bottom of slow cooker, add vegetable oil, garlic, ginger, water, soy sauce, brown sugar and Sriracha sauce.  Stir to combine.
  3. Add in coated flank steak and carrots and stir again until everything is coated in the sauce.
  4. Cover and cook on HIGH for 2-3 hours or on LOW for 4-6 hours, until steak is fully cooked and tender.
  5. Serve over white rice and garnish with green onions and sesame seeds if desired.
