Air Fryer Fried Chicken

Tips for making air fried chicken

  • You can marinate your chicken in the refrigerator before you cook with it. Using buttermilk helps keep it nice and juicy when you bake it.

  • If desired, allow it to marinate between 1 hour and 24 hours. Or, if you're pressed for time, you can skip this step.

  • If you would like a little kick, add 1/4 cup of your favorite hot sauce to your buttermilk dip.

  • Make sure your chicken is covered with oil. All flour spots will taste floury when the it is done if you don’t spray them with oil and cook it.

  • When you place them in the air fryer, be sure that the sides aren't touching. This helps them cook evenly and come out nice and crispy. Crispy air fried chicken is my favorite.

  • How long you need to cook air fried chicken depends on the type of air fryer you have. You should use a meat thermometer.

  • The chicken is ready when it reaches 165°F or more, so pull the chicken out at 163°F as it will continue to cook.

Frequently asked questions

What type of chicken is best?

You can use any type of chicken that has skin on it. I've used a combination of legs and thighs. Larger pieces like breasts will need to cook longer.

So, try to find pieces that are uniform in size so all of the pieces cook for the same amount of time.

Just keep in mind that the breading might not stick as well to skinless chicken.

Bone-in chicken with skin will work best in this recipe.

How to make your own buttermilk

If you don't have buttermilk to dip your chicken in, you can make your own. All you need to do is to mix one cup of milk with one tablespoon of white vinegar.

If you don't have vinegar, you can use lemon juice. Just let it sit for 5 minutes until you notice that the mixture has curdled. You'll never have to run to the store for buttermilk again.

How to store leftovers
If you have leftovers of this air fried chicken, you should store them in the refrigerator in a container with a tightly fitting lid. You can keep it in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 days.

If you want to store it for a longer period, you can freeze it for up to 6 months.

To defrost, let it thaw in the refrigerator and then reheat it or enjoy it cold.

This recipe is delicious cold the next day. You may want to make extra so you can plan another meal with it cold.

How to reheat air fried chicken
This chicken is at its best on the same day you make it. But, you can reheat it if you need to. Just place it back in the air fryer at 370F for about 10 minutes.

What should I serve with air fryer fried chicken?

There are so many different recipes you can make to go along with this recipe. Sometimes, I make extra just so I can have another meal. Here are a few of my favorites.

Tips for the Perfect Air Fryer Baked Potato

  • You do not need to poke holes in the potatoes. They will come out perfectly without doing this.

  • Make sure that your potatoes are all about the same size. This is important to be sure that they are all cooked evenly at the same time.

  • Using a potato brush makes it easier to clean your potatoes before you cook them. Make sure that they are completely dry before you start cooking them.

  • Always give your potatoes a light spray of cooking oil before you bake them. It helps make the skins crispy.

  • You can use olive oil or bacon drippings but don’t rub potatoes with butter, butter contains a lot of moisture and can prevent your skins from crisping up.

  • Check the potatoes partway through. If the skins are starting to look too brown, you can flip them over using a pair of cooking thongs.

  • Don't cook more than 4 potatoes at a time. You don't want them to be crowded because they won't cook as well.

You can use aluminum foil in the basket of your air fryer. But, you should never use it on the base of the air fryer. It may end up scratching the surface and will interfere with cooking.

Are air-fried potatoes healthy?

Air-fried foods are healthier than deep-fried foods because they are lower in fat and calories.

But, because they do have some type of added oil, they may not be as healthy as their broiled or steamed alternatives.

So, this air fryer baked potato is better than fried potatoes. But, it may not be as healthy as boiled potatoes.

The benefit of making baked potatoes in the air fryer isn't necessarily that they are healthier. But, it is so much faster to make them this way.

It takes about 20 minutes less time to make air fryer baked potatoes.

Air Fryer Pork Chops (Boneless)

Air fryer pork chops are boneless pork with sweet and savory flavors. Make this easy pork chop recipe for a healthy weeknight dinner.

are boneless pork with sweet and savory flavors Air Fryer Pork Chops (Boneless)
I am all about using my air fryer lately. It's a wonderful way to keep the kitchen cool in the summer. And, it is so much healthier than deep-frying your foods.

Have you had a chance to try any of my other air fryer recipes?

This air fryer baked potato has crispy skin without any oil. And, it's light and fluffy on the inside.

Or, my air fryer fried chicken lets you enjoy the taste of fried chicken with a fraction of the fat and calories.

are boneless pork with sweet and savory flavors Air Fryer Pork Chops (Boneless)

Tips for Making Air Fryer Pork Chops

This air fried pork chop recipe comes out crispy on the outside and moist on the inside.

It's an easy air fryer recipe you can have on the table in less than 30 minutes. It's perfect for busy nights and weekends.

Tools needed to make this recipe
How long do you air fry pork chops?

I air-fried my pork chops for about 14 minutes. It was the perfect amount of time for 1 1/4" thick pork chops.

But, you will need to preheat your air fryer and allow them to sit for 5 minutes. This brings the total preparation time up to about 25 minutes.

are boneless pork with sweet and savory flavors Air Fryer Pork Chops (Boneless)

Will the recipe work using bone-in pork chops?

Yes, this recipe will work for both types of pork chops. But, the preparation time is for making boneless pork chops in an air fryer.

If you are cooking bone-in pork chops, they will need to cook longer.

How many can you cook at once?

This will really depend on how large your air fryer is. If you're asking is it ok to stack them, I don't recommend it.

An air fryer basket is fairly small. So, it is tempting to place things close together or stack them on top.

But, one of the most important things you need to do is to leave room for the air to circulate. This results in the best taste and proper cooking.

Place only as many pork chops in your air fryer as will fit and allow space to circulate. This will be between two and four depending on the size of your air fryer.

are boneless pork with sweet and savory flavors Air Fryer Pork Chops (Boneless)

Proper internal temperature for pork

When making these air fryer pork chops, keep in mind that the proper internal temperature for pork is 145 according to the US Pork Board.

It's very important that you use a meat thermometer to be sure your pork is cooked completely.

Time will vary depending on if you are cooking bone-in or boneless pork chops. And, it will depend on how thick your chops are.

So, using a meat thermometer is really the best way to check.

If you're looking for air fryer pork chops with no breading, you are in luck.

I make boneless pork chops in an air fryer using a rub. The result is sweet and smoky, and in my opinion, so much better than adding breading or batter to your pork chops.

The recipe for the rub is enough for 2 servings if you use my recommendation of 1 tablespoon per pork chop.

In my opinion, nothing is worse than pulling out all of my spices to make a rub and realizing I don’t have enough and have to make more!

More pork chop recipes

There are so many delicious ways to make pork chops that I never run out of ideas. You might want to take a look at these recipes and try them soon if you need a few more ideas.

What should I serve with these pork chops?

If you're wondering what sides to serve with this recipe, why not try a few of these.

Or, you can always keep it simple and serve a loaf of crusty Italian or French bread and a side garden salad.

Enjoy!

Air Fryer Pork Chops

Air fryer pork chops are boneless pork with sweet and savory flavors. Make this easy pork chop recipe for a healthy weeknight dinner.
Prep time: 5 Minutes Cook time: 17 Minutes Total time: 22 Minutes

Ingredients

  • 4 thick cut boneless pork chops
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
For the rub
  • 2 tablespoons light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme

Instructions

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 400°F for 5 minutes
  2. Blot pork chops with paper towel
  3. Drizzle a small amount of olive oil on each pork chop, rub all over and don’t forget the sides.
  4. Combine all spices for the rub, you’ll have some leftover depending on how much you use for each pork chop. I used a 1/2 tablespoon per pork chop.
  5. Sprinkle 1/2 teaspoon on the top of each pork chop, then rub it in until it absorbs into the meat a little bit. Flip the pork chop over and repeat with another 1/2 teaspoon of the rub mixture. Use your hands to season the sides with another 1/2 teaspoon.
  6. Spray your air fryer basket with olive oil to prevent the pork chops from sticking.
  7. Place the seasoned pork chops in the preheated air fryer with room around them for the air to circulate. My pork chops were fairly big, so I cooked them 2 at a time. Bake for 14-17 minutes total,(depending on the thickness of your pork chops. Mine were about 1-3/4 inches thick and 17 minutes was perfect), flipping halfway through the cooking time.
  8. Remove the pork chops and place them on a serving dish to rest for 5 minutes. This is a small extra step that helps your pork chops remain moist and flavorful!
  9. Garnish with fresh thyme if you’re feeling fancy!
DONNA'S NOTES
  1. The recipe for the rub is enough for 4 servings if you use my recommendation of 1/2 tablespoon per pork chop. In my opinion, nothing is worse than pulling out all of my spices to make a rub and realizing I don’t have enough and have to make more!

  • Spray both the air fryer basket and the French fries with a light coating of oil. This helps to make them crispy.

  • Toss the French fries halfway through the cooking process to be sure that they cook evenly on both sides.

  • You can change the cooking time depending on how thick your fries are and how crispy you like them.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to air fry frozen French fries?

This will all depend on how large your air fryer is and how many French fries you put in.

If you follow this recipe, you will need to preheat the air fryer for 3 minutes. Then, you will need to cook the fries for 10 to 15 minutes.

Make sure you check them for doneness so they don't overcook.

come out crispy on the outside and tender on the inside Air Fried Frozen French Fries

Do frozen fries need to be thawed before air frying?

No, you don't need to thaw the French fries first. That's one of the reasons I love air-fried frozen French fries so much.

You can make them from start to finish in just a few minutes. You don't need to plan ahead to remember to thaw them. Just start with frozen French fries.

Are air fryer French fries healthy?

They are healthier than the deep-fried version. How healthy they are depends on what you add to them after they are cooked.

If you watch the salt and choose a low-fat option like vinegar or onion powder, there is no reason you can't enjoy these as a healthy treat.

come out crispy on the outside and tender on the inside Air Fried Frozen French Fries

How large of a batch of French fries can you air fry at one time?

This depends on how big your air fryer is. When you add the French fries, it's important that they are in a single layer in the air fryer.

This way the air can circulate around the fries as they cook. This results in golden-brown, crispy French fries with a light and fluffy center.

If you add too many fries, they won't cook properly. The outer layer will burn while the inner layer stays mushy.

Add what you can comfortably fit in your air fryer at one time. You can always make another batch if you need to.

Enjoy!

Air Fryer Corn on the Cob

Air fryer corn on the cob is a quick, easy, and tasty side dish for any summer meal. Make this corn recipe using fresh sweet corn in 15 minutes!

and tasty side dish for any summer meal Air Fryer Corn on the Cob

Fresh sweet corn is one of my favorite summer side dishes. It goes with almost anything whether that's hot dogs on the grill or a Sunday pot roast.

And, while the traditional way to cook corn on the cob may be in a big pot of boiling water, there are other options.

Have you ever tried making corn on the cob in the oven? It's prepped and ready to bake in just 10 minutes. It is utterly life-altering! You have to try it.

Crockpot corn on the cob is cooked right in your slow cooker without heating up the kitchen.

If you want something a little bit different, why not try my Mexican corn and sausage skillet recipe. It's ready in 25 minutes, made all in one skillet.

and tasty side dish for any summer meal Air Fryer Corn on the Cob

Tips for making air fryer corn on the cob

You should prep your corn by removing the husks and trimming the edges. Be sure to cover the ears of corn completely with melted butter.

It helps them cook evenly and they taste so much better that way.

If you prefer to keep this recipe vegan, instead of butter, you can spray the corn with olive oil or a butter-flavored cooking spray.

But, just don't put them in plain. When you make air-fried corn on the cob, they need to have some sort of coating whether that's oil or butter.

If you are concerned about the ears of corn getting too crispy, you can try adding a spray of olive oil to the cobs when you first put them in.

And, then halfway through, you can coat them with butter. Make sure that you flip them over partway through so they get crispy and grilled on all sides.

For a smaller air fryer, you can cut the cobs in half if you need to in order to fit them in better.

Frequently asked questions

How to make char-grilled corn in an air fryer

Roasted or grilled sweet corn is one of my favorite recipes. And, roasting them in an air fryer is so easy.

All you need to do to get that char-grilled taste is to spray them with oil or butter and make them in an air fryer.

and tasty side dish for any summer meal Air Fryer Corn on the Cob

How to make this recipe using frozen corn

Making corn in the air fryer works just as well with fresh corn as it does with frozen corn.

You may need to cook it closer to 10 minutes than 8 minutes but you should not have to make any other changes to this recipe.

Is it safe to use foil in an air fryer?

While it is safe to use foil in your air fryer, your food won't cook as well. Air frying works because the air circulates freely around the food to cook it.

If you cover the food with foil, you just won't get the same results. Save the foil for the grill. You don't need it in this air fryer corn on the cob recipe.

and tasty side dish for any summer meal Air Fryer Corn on the Cob

How many ears can you cook at one time?

How many ears you can cook really depends on the size of your air fryer and how large the corn on the cob is.

Do not crowd the corn into the air fryer or lay them on top of each other. Place each corn on the basket and allow for room for the air to circulate.

We can fit about 4 ears of corn in ours. But, yours may vary. It only takes a few minutes to make more.

and tasty side dish for any summer meal Air Fryer Corn on the Cob

Seasoning ideas

We normally add butter and salt and pepper to our corn in the air fryer. But, if you want a kick of flavor, you can try adding a little bit of cayenne pepper.

Here are a few more ideas you might want to try.
  • Garlic, lime zest, and cilantro
  • Butter and parmesan cheese
  • Fresh herbs like oregano or parsley
  • Paprika, sea salt, and pepper
  • Mayonnaise, cheese, and chili powder for Mexican street corn
  • Honey butter
  • Cajun seasoning and butter
  • Sour cream and chives
  • Sriracha mayonnaise
  • Maple butter and cilantro

Enjoy!

Air Fryer Corn on the Cob

Air fryer corn on the cob is a quick, easy, and tasty side dish for any summer meal. Make this corn recipe using fresh sweet corn in 15 minutes!
Prep time: 5 Minutes Cook time: 10 Minutes Total time: 15 Minutes

Ingredients

  • 4 ears of corn, cleaned (husks and silks removed. Then rinsed and dried.)
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted (or olive oil in a spray bottle)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 400°F for 3 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, brush the corn with melted butter.
  3. Cook in the air fryer for 8-10 minutes, until starting to brown.
  4. Flip the corn halfway through cook time and brush with more butter. If you want it a little more golden, cook it longer.
  5. Remove and brush with more butter and sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste.
DONNA'S NOTES
  1. If the corn is too large for the air fryer you can trim off the ends or even cut the cob in half so it will fit.
  2. We also love to add a dash of cayenne pepper to our melted butter for more flavor and a little kick.
