Nothing says summer quite like a cook-out filled with grilled eats, sides, salads and beans.  My perfect cookout menu includes burgers and dogs, my moms potato and macaroni salads, roasted corn and beans. I am so excited to be sharing recipes for our favorites with you this summer.

Have you ever tasted baked beans so smoky and rich that you could eat them for an entire meal?  Well, these are the beans of your dreams!  It all starts with a pound of bacon, veggies and the fixins for the best tasting smoky beans you have ever eaten.

Prepared in a slow cooker the recipe is as easy as soaking the beans overnight and then dumping all the ingredients into the slow cooker and letting them go all day (or night).  The results are incredible.  Deep rich molasses and brown sugar add to the body of the smokey, tender beans.  The vinegar helps mellow out the sweetness so it is perfect.  These beans are reminiscent of the beans you would enjoy at a smokehouse.  Now you can have them at home.

Chad and I went nuts with these, as I mentioned I ate bowls of them on their own and Chad put them on everything you can imagine.  They are the perfect topping to a grilled burger, just add a slice of cheese!  This dish will be a hit at your cook-out, just be sure to bring the recipe with you.  Everyone will ask for it!

  4. Cook on high for 10-12 hours until beans are tender.  Add salt to taste, we use the full 1 tablespoon.
  5. Serve and enjoy!

DONNA’S NOTES

Perfect corn on the cob cooked on the stove top Perfect Stove Top Corn on the Cob

I love corn.  I love corn so much that Chad calls me an honorary Iowan.  So true!

I am pretty sure if I lived in Iowa I would eat corn non stop.  Have you ever had Iowa corn?  Straight off the truck?  OH MY WORD!!!  I could eat it right off the stalk.

I actually had the honor of visiting Iowa during the sweet corn festival several years ago.  Let's just say I ate my fair share of corn.

I may have even eaten enough corn to feed most of the city of Phoenix.

Even then I couldn't get enough.  After we ate most of Cedar Rapids out of corn we bought about 50 more pounds, wrapped it up and packed it with dry ice and shipped it home.

I can tell you it was so worth it.  I miss Iowa corn.  There is nothing quite like it. I am hoping to surprise Chad with a trip to Iowa this year for the Sweet Corn festival. I will let you know how it goes.

I love corn every way you can fix it; grilled, oven roasted, cooked on the stove top and wrapped in bacon.

I will get back to the bacon corn soon, but I really wanted to share my no muss no fuss stove top corn recipe with you.

I have been making corn on the cob using this stove top method since I was old enough to reach the stove.  I really love the natural sweetness that I found in Iowa corn.

Unfortunately not all corn is that sweet.  Adding the perfect touch of sweetness this recipe is about as simple as can be and you will be eating sweet corn on the cob in just 20 minutes.

Even if you are as impatient as me that is still pretty impressive.

Helpful Tips to make Perfect Stove Top Corn on the Cob:

  • Allow corn to keep warm in the water until ready to serve, up to 1 hour.
  • Do not add salt to the pot of water, adding salt makes the skins of the kernels tougher and that does not make for tasty corn.
  • Boiling the corn can lead to mushy corn. This method creates the most perfect corn on the cob.
