It is any surprise that a carb nut like me would love sandwiches too? Well of course not.

That is one of the things that I loved about New Orleans. They could be in the running for the sandwich capital of America with all those fabulous Po'Boys and Muffalettas!

Another city that thrills me for its fabulous sandwich representation is Philly. I mean can it really get any better than a Philly cheese steak sandwich?

Once you taste a cheesy Philly Cheese Steak Burger you might think so.

Philly Cheese Steak Burgers

I love Philly Cheese Steak sandwiches. The soft white bread with thinly cut slices of steak, topped with gobs of provolone cheese, and of course, sauteed peppers and onions. My mouth waters even at the thought.

So, for your devouring pleasure I bring you the Cheesy Philly Cheese Steak Burgers.  A fabulous burger loaded with steak flavor and topped with sauteed peppers, caramelized onions and the most delicious smoked provolone cheese sauce you have ever eaten.

Chad and I went nuts over these burgers. This is an amazing gourmet burger recipe, and if you dare to make a double batch of smoked provolone cheese sauce, it is amazing on fries too!

Pro tip for making any gourmet burger recipe:

  • Use a gentle touch - When you are making the patties, be careful not to over work the meat mixture, because too much handling creates tough, dry burgers.
  • Don't press down - Try to avoid pressing down on the burgers while they are cooking. All this does is squeeze out the juicy goodness from inside the burgers.

What you will need to make Cheesy Philly Cheesesteak Burgers:
    • Mixing Bowl- I like a variety of mixing bowls and prep bowls and this set has them all.
    • A large skillet with a lid – To help the pasta cook evenly, a wide skillet works best, ideally one that’s more than 12 inches in diameter.
    Enjoy!

With love from our simple kitchen to yours.

    Philly Cheese Steak Burgers

Make Philly Cheese Steak Burgers with this gourmet burger recipe! Featuring sauteed peppers and onions plus smoked provolone cheese sauce.

    Ingredients

    Burgers
    • 2 pounds ground sirloin or chuck
    • 1 tablespoon Montreal grill seasoning
    • 1 tablespoon A-1 Steak Sauce
    • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
    • 1 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
    Toppings
    • 1 large yellow onion
    • 2 bell peppers (I used 1/2 each: red, orange, yellow and green)
    • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
    • Kosher salt
    • Fresh ground black pepper
    • 4 hamburger buns  (I love these homemade buns)
    • 1 recipe Provolone Cheese Sauce

    Instructions

    1. Combine burger ingredients in a large mixing bowl.  Mix with hands to combine.  Do not over mix.
    2. Form beef into 4 patties, slightly larger than your bun.  Make a slight indentation in the center of the burger to prevent it from doming up in the center. (The indentation will rise as your burger cooks).  Set aside while you prepare the toppings.
    3. Melt 1 tablespoon butter in a large skillet over medium high heat, add onions.  Toss to coat, cover and cook for 20-25 minutes until onions are caramelized, stirring occasionally. Season with salt and pepper, to taste.
    4. Meanwhile in a large skillet over high heat, melt 1 tablespoon butter.  Add sliced peppers, toss to coat.  Cook until peppers are soft.  Season with salt and pepper, to taste.
    5. Preheat grill to high.
    6. Grill until golden brown and slightly charred (about 3 minutes), turning once (cook for 3 minutes on the other side for medium). Close grill cover.  Try not to press down on your burger with a spatula. It will cause the juices to escape and will create a dry burger!
    7. Toast buns on low or indirect heat.
    8. To dress burger:  Place a burger on toasted bottom bun, top with 1/4 of the sautéed peppers and onions, and a heaping spoonful of smoked provolone cheese sauce. Then, top with a toasted top bun.
    9. Serve and enjoy!

The sounds of summer in the air had me whipping off my grill cover and dusting off my grill this weekend.  Chad has been talking about having a fine steakhouse burger all week.  When I say he has been talking about it, I mean it!  This is how our good nights went last evening.  Me:  "Goodnight baby."  Chad: "So, what do you think about having burgers tomorrow".  Really?

Once menu requests sneak into your goodnights...  It's serious.

I started thinking and planning my next burger masterpiece.  I have really been diggin' cooking with beer lately.  I love the flavor it imparts into a dish.  So, I decided to add some beer into our steakhouse burger.  That and some smoky flavor create a fabulous base for this gourmet burger.

This smoky beer burger is topped with barbecue sauce, cheese and caramelized beer onions.  It comes together in just 30 minutes.

Helpful Tips to make Steakhouse Smoky Barbecue Beer Burgers with Caramelized Beer Onions:

    • 80/20 beef makes for the best burgers!
    • Mix until just combined. Overmixing will create a tough burger and that isn't good for anyone.
    • Resist the temptation to press down on the burger with a spatula. It doesn't make them cook faster, it just presses out the juices and all the flavor, leaving you with a dry burger. Again, no one wants that!
    • Preaheat your grill to medium or medium high.
    • Make a slight indentation in the center of the burger on one side to prevent it from doming up in the center. The indentation will rise as your burger cooks.

What you will need to make Steakhouse Smoky Barbecue Beer Burgers with Caramelized Beer Onions:

Steakhouse Smoky Barbecue Beer Burgers with Caramelized Beer Onions

Smokehouse Smoky Barbecue Beer Burger with Caramelized Onions is a simple recipe that comes together in just 30 minutes. The burgers are a really beefy, steak-like burger prepared with a dark and smoky beer, this one is loaded with beer caramelized onions and your favorite barbecue sauce.

    Ingredients

    • 1 large yellow onion
    • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
    • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
    • 2 1/2 pounds lean ground beef (about 80% lean)
    • 3 cloves garlic, minced
    • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
    • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
    • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
    • 2 teaspoons spicy Montreal steak seasoning
    • 1 (12 ounce) bottle dark beer, divided
    • 1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
    • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
    • kosher salt
    • 6 ounces KC Masterpiece Smoky Bourbon Barbecue Sauce (or your favorite)
    • 6 hamburger buns
    • 6 slices of cheddar cheese
    • 6 tablespoons mayo
    • lettuce

    Instructions

How to cook Steakhouse Smoky Barbecue Beer Burgers with Caramelized Beer Onions

    1. Warm a 10” skillet over medium-high heat. Meanwhile, slice onion. Add butter and onion to skillet. Sprinkle with sugar. Stir to combine. Stir occasionally until onions start to brown, about 6 minutes.
    2. Preheat grill to medium or medium-high.
    3. While onions are cooking, combine beef, garlic, paprika, cumin, steak seasoning, Worcestershire sauce and 4 ounces of beer in a large mixing bowl. Mix to combine. Portion beef mixture and form into patties slightly larger than your bun. Don't overmix. Make a slight indentation in the center of the burger on one side to prevent it from doming up in the center. The indentation will rise as your burger cooks. Set aside.
    4. Pour remaining beer into skillet with onions. Stir to combine, cover and cook for 15 minutes, or until beer evaporates.
    5. Brush burgers with olive oil and lightly sprinkle them with salt.
    6. Place burgers on grill with the indentation side facing up. Close lid and cook for 3 minutes. Flip, brush with barbecue sauce and grill for 3 minutes on the other side. Toast buns on grill.
    7. Assemble burger. Spread 1 tablespoon mayo on each bottom bun. Add lettuce, burger, cheese, caramelized onion and remaining barbecue sauce.
    8. Serve and enjoy!
