What makes these cookies so special?

There are so many chocolate chip cookie recipes out there, what makes these DoubleTree Cookies so special? Well, the secret is out. There is a tiny bit of freshly squeezed lemon juice in this recipe.

The lemon juice reacts with the baking soda. And, this reaction makes the cookies a bit lighter and chewier than traditional cookies.

Tips to make DoubleTree Cookies

If you want to make a large batch of these Double Tree Cookies, you can freeze the unbaked cookies to bake in the future.

Just lay them out on a baking sheet that's lined with parchment paper and place them in the freezer.

Once they're frozen solid, you can layer them in an airtight container or put them in a freezer bag.

Then, just take out one or two of the frozen cookies and bake them as you want them. There is no need to thaw them first.

That way, you can enjoy a warm DoubleTree Cookie whenever you want one.

To freeze these cookies after they're baked, layer them between layers of freezer paper in an airtight container.

They will stay good in the freezer for up to six months as long as you keep the container sealed. These cookies will make a wonderful option for your holiday gift-giving.

Do I need to chill the dough?

No. This Double Tree Cookie dough does not need to be chilled before you bake it. That means you can have your warm DoubleTree Cookie even sooner.

Waiting for the cookies to come out of the oven can be so difficult some days.

Double Tree Cookie variations

This recipe for DoubleTree Cookies is the one that is used by the DoubleTree Hotel. But, you can certainly make modifications to the recipe if you prefer.

This cookie recipe makes about 26 cookies.

But, you can easily double the recipe to make a larger batch. Or, you can halve the ingredients if you don't want to make as many.

Sometimes, it can just be too tempting to have dozens of chocolate chip cookies in the house.

For gluten-free DoubleTree Cookies, use a one to one gluten-free flour replacement.

They'll be just as delicious and you'll be able to share them with friends that are gluten-intolerant.

You can substitute a different type of chocolate chip if you want to.

Dark chocolate chips are a delicious taste variation. Or, you can use mini-chocolate chips instead of the standard sized Nestle Tollhouse semi-sweet chocolate chips.

While chopped walnuts are traditional, you can leave them out if you have a nut allergy. Or, you can try chopped pecans or another type of nut if you prefer.

Or, for a crunch without adding nuts, try pumpkin or sunflower seeds.
